What Is It?
While most commonly involving cigarettes, the fetish also includes pipes, cigars and, to a much lesser extent, marijuana, opium, etc. It's thought that most smoking fetishists are straight men.
As with other fetishes, smoking fetishists have many and varied tastes within the fetish itself. Some will only be turned on by women who smoke cigarettes with brown filters, while others can only find satisfaction when women smoke extra long cigarettes.
The main ingredients of the smoking fetish are a) how the cigarette is handled b) the length and manner in which the smoke is inhaled and c) the type of exhalation (through the nose, smoke rings and so on).
The idea of smoking being taboo has added to its mystique as a fetish; making the smoker appear to be mischievous, promiscuous, or dominant. (Or conversely, an idiot, since everyone knows by now that smoking endangers not only the health of the smoker but of anyone nearby. Jeesh. -- Intolerant anti-smoking Ed)
Required Equipment:
Any of: cigars, pipes, cigarettes, ashtrays, cigarette holders and lighters.
Insider Quote:
"The cigarette was for many years a magical prop for gesture... For Marlene, in her man's suit or tails, it enriched still more her ambiguous, suggestive stance ... Smoking, her need and passion, a sign of her toughness and liberation, also became an opportunity for her to play. The patterns of smoke blowing into the air created a surprising poetic illusion." -- Photographer, Alexander Lieberman, writing of Marlene Dietrich
Fun Fact:
The actress Helena Bonham Carter has garnered many fans from the smoking fetish community. Her handling style, inhale and exhale are thought to be the epitome of sexy.
