Sooner or later it happens to every single -- a relationship sputters, the friend-with-benefits gets hooked up and we hit a dry spell.

No matter how attractive, networked or outgoing we are, sex is one of those things that inexorably drift from our lives every now and again, as if to remind us (rather cruelly) of just how great it can be.

Fortunately, with the advent of electricity, smart gals can fearlessly weather the driest of dry patches without compromising personal pleasure. And really smart gals can make good sex lives even better with enhanced (read: battery-powered) Me time.

With the help of female-friendly adult toy retailer VibeReview, we decided to investigate some items to make playtime more blissful -- tough work but that's the kind of giving, selfless (and modest!) people we are. No matter what your pleasure preference, there is a toy for you. Trust us on this one.

Sleeping alone has never been so buzzy.

At the top of the toy heap is the Gigi ($99.95*). While pricey, the Gigi is considered a premium adult toy, is highly popular and thus frequently sold out. Why all the fuss?

It's rechargeable, made of toxic-free material, can be cleaned easily, and comes with multiple vibration/pulsation programs. And it comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty -- as rare with adult toys as good songs are with Nickelback. Made for G-spot stimulation and loaded with multiple settings, the Gigi is a winner though admittedly a bit tricky to use (so many settings, so little time). But a quick run through the manual is research time well spent when this toy revs into action.

And here's a tip for a smoother ride -- consider siding any of the above with Pjur Woman Aqua ($19.95), a quality non-toxic, allergy-tested personal lubricant ideal for women. Unlike many water-based lubes that contain known irritants, Pjur Woman Aqua prevents discomfort and irritation, providing slicker, wetter stimulation.

Also hot off the mark -- the Liv vibrator ($78.95). I was impressed by the sleek, discreet packaging and I loved that it was rechargeable but above all else, it's how this vibrator feels. It's velvety smooth and soft. I've never felt anything like it and I can't see myself going back to a traditional, plastic vibrator again. The motor packs a powerful little punch and is quiet enough so that you don't feel like you are riding a lawn mower.

There are five pre-programmed stimulation modes so you should give yourself a little tutorial on the function settings before you start. Also, and this is a very important tip, don't toss it aside and forget to recharge it. I only needed to learn that lesson once!

I took some time to try the other settings which were fun but some of the choices like the "intermediate interval pulsation" and "short interval pulsation" modes made me feel like I was at a dance club (which gave me a laugh). In the end, I stuck to the tried and true "continuous vibration" setting which became a favorite default mode. This vibrator also locks which is another bonus because it will help relieve my paranoia of thinking that my vibrator will go off in public in my overnight bag.

The Laya Spot vibrator is splash-proof, powerful and quieter than most on the market and comes with a sample of love gel -- thank you! Its unique shape worked in a variety of positions and it fit well in my hand. It's multi-speed and has one continuous function setting which works perfectly for me – easy peasy.  The price point is right ($51.95) and the silicone texture feels great. Too bad it's not rechargeable. It requires 2 AAA batteries. That shouldn't dissuade you though. It's a quality product that packs a clitoral wallop.

I was initially excited to try the Lily vibrator from Lelo ($99.95) especially since I am such a huge fan of its sister product the Liv (see above). This tiny, quiet and discreet vibrator is perfect for breaking out in bed when dating someone new. It looks and feels like a smooth stone in your hand -- very slick and sexy.

However, I was disappointed because I found it hard to handle and it's not as powerful as some of the other vibrators I have tried which is too bad considering its high price point. But, if you find that light to moderate pressure is your preference then I think it will certainly do the trick, especially if you spend some time getting hot and heavy earlier on in the night.
