Every time I talk to single women in Manhattan, I hear horror stories about how hard it is to date there.

There are so many more women than men, and how the men won't commit because they have soooooo many options; there's a beautiful, smart, available woman on every corner.

Allison, a single woman living in New York says, "They won't pick just one -- they're like a bunch of kids at the candy store."

Well, turns out these city girls aren't just pickier or less datable. Statistically, they're having a pretty hard time of it -- in the New York City area (New York-Newark NJ/NY/CT) urban area, there is actually a surplus of 180,000 extra women, more than any other place in the U.S.

A recent issue of National Geographic mapped out the highest populations of singles in the U.S., and it turns out the ladies are all huddled in the corner on the east coast, while the guys are sitting it out all along the west coast.

Where the Guys Are

Go west, young ladies. The Los Angeles/Long Beach/Santa Ana area has 40,000 more single men than women. The seven best cities for a surplus of single men include: Las Vegas, Phoenix-Mesa, AZ, Denver, Seattle, Dallas, Austin, and Houston. That's right, ladies, everything's bigger in Texas, including your odds of snagging a man.

Cities where it's Ladies Night every night

Guys, one ticket to New York City and you'll hit the jackpot. In the New York-Newark urban area, there are 180,000 more single women than men. Other cites with lots more women than men include Baltimore, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, St. Louis, Memphis, New Orleans, and Miami.

Canadian Men are the Luckiest Men in the World

In Canada, the all-around odds for men are pretty darn good. As for the ladies, you have one option: A July 2007 article in the Globe and Mail stated, "If you're looking for a husband, Alberta is the place to go. It was the only province in Canada with more men than women. For every 100 women, there 100.2 men in Alberta, compared to 95.9 men for every 100 women at a national level."

Is Relocating to Improve your Dating Odds a Good Plan?

Alicia Dunams, author of Goal Digger: Lessons Learned From the Rich Men I Dated says no.

Dunams insists, "You shouldn't relocate to find love, because you may bring the same dating bad luck with you -- and now what? You have left your job and family and friends! If you can't find a man where you are, just use the Internet. Love will find you."

But some singles find relocation to be a smart strategy. Manny Otiko is a senior media relations associate at WunderMarx PR, and single guy in his 30s. A few years ago he decided to go where the action was, and made a move to improve his dating odds.
