Going Green Across America

Wondering what to do on St. Patrick's Day? There are plenty of options, depending on what city you're in. Flying to Dublin for the day notwithstanding, here are your best bets for greatest of all green holidays.

March 12 - 17
The Dropkick Murphys were working class, hometown heroes in Boston's Irish community long before Scorsese put them on the map with The Departed soundtrack. The only difference now is they (probably) get paid a lot more money to do what they've been doing for years: cranking out some of the finest punk rock Celtic music this side of the Atlantic. So it's no wonder they can pack six House of Blues shows in a row. Warning: The gigs are selling out fast, so you're going to need a little luck of the Irish to get tickets. Failing that, on March 15, you can hook up with a small gathering of roughly 500,000 people at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston, Boston's most Irish community.

New York: The Pogues at the Roseland Ballroom
March 12 - 14
With Shane MacGowan back as frontman, this really is the ultimate St. Patrick's Day experience. And it doesn't matter they're not playing on March 17 (they'll be in DC then). Everyone knows it's the Saturday before that counts the most. Dirty Old Town will never sound so good.

Every day
Raise a glass of green beer -- word has it this here establishment is quite simply the place to be on St. Patrick's Day.

March 15 (Noon)
OK, so it's not Boston, but that doesn't mean this parade won't draw an enthusiastically green crowd.

March 14 (10 a.m. sharp)
Leave it to Vancouverites. The most debauched holiday of the year and they want to go for a nice, refreshing jog around the Seawall. Sickening. Truly sickening.
